A Wonderful Movie

Wonder, the latest movie starring Julia Roberts (My Best Friend’s Wedding, Pretty Woman & Erin Brockovich) is about a child named Auggie (August) Pullman who was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, is a genetic disorder characterized by deformities of the ears, eyes, cheekbones, and chin. Auggie’s mother Isabel Pullman (Roberts) has home teached her son his entire life until he had to attend the fifth grade where his mother & him are scared he would be bullied.

Throughout this well crafted family film we see Auggie’s journey from making enemies, gaining friends to even winning an award at the end of the school year. Jacob Tremblay who plays Auggie Pullman gives us a believable and great look into the life of a young child with a facial deformity, as far as child acting in a motion picture goes this is some of the best acting I’ve seen from a child since 2011’s Super 8. Julia Roberts & Owen Wilson who plays Nate Pullman (Auggie’s father) provides enjoyable comic relief and shows Owen Wilson can give us great performances when he’s actually trying.

The abundant amount of Star Wars references throughout the film also provide some great laughs to go with some of the more serious moments throughout the film. While there are a few minor hiccups throughout the film (Some of the conflicts throughout the film are solved very quickly & feel very unimportant & nothing spectacular occurs in the cinematography) Wonder is a great movie about a child with a imagination who has to overcome his fear of being in public & show how much of a great person internally he is.

Final Rating: 4.5/5
