Comics - Doors to Creativity

From the early 1900s to today, comics has evolved, becoming a staple part of society from being seen as a taboo of images that ruined the minds of children. Today anyone can be shown a series of pictures and identify them as a comic instantaneously as we’re overloaded with movies, merchandise, video games, and the books themselves. The main components that let these simple panels influence culture is their creativity, their stories, and how it can be told to entertain their audience. A creator has to think about all of the things that has been done before and throw it out of a window. They need to think of something really new, something dear to them and they hold onto it. These values can make anyone qualified to become a writer, or an artist or even a publisher. There are qualifications to be met with each of these roles and how they are achieved.

The writers are a big part of the comic process as they work like the director on a film with lots more control. They can control how these characters are molded and turn into staples of society, such as Marvel’s Fantastic Four by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. If anyone wants to become a writer they need practice, like a middle school kid writing his story about three friends exploring the ocean for a better life. A good writer also knows what bad writing looks like, so they must read a plentiful amount of stories, good and bad.

The writer is nothing without their artists as they can give the character actions and visually portrays their characters emotions. If anyone qualifies to be an artist they’ll need years of experience most likely starting at a very young age to today. They also need to see all the errors of artwork and have inspirations from all sorts of mediums. This means young artists have the most potential to fill these roles.

The most essential part of the comic creating process is the publisher. The publisher is like the audience’s outlet and to be the publisher they have to manage the artist and writers as one unit and will spread their stories throughout the world. Publishers have to be neat and organized and must lead their teams to profit. Business students would do well in this matter for their knowledge on handling their teams and cooperation between their associates.

The final piece of the comic creating process is their will. A creator has to overcome the public’s opinion and let their creativity roam freely without hindrance. They have to be daring and stubborn, The best people can remain unassuaged for however long it takes to finish their stories. Writers that can risk cancellation and still keep their readers hooked. Artists can show the most graphic scenes yet keep their viewers enthralled, wanting more. Publishers will release the most controversial stories and still be asked to continue that story. The best people are the ones forged through fire, the ones who go through hardship yet become great in those times. The people who have to fight for what they want said.

These qualifications are needed to get by in writing, publishing, or even drawing comics. Comics are a growing part of social life now. From movies to books, to art galleries all over the world. It has been said that this past year has been a new age for comic books as we’ve seen how influential they have become.
