Throughout history there has been questions as to why criminals responds to things the way in which they do, including: what triggers this sudden urge? Is it heritable? Does the environment play a role in it? According to Jones, M. Caitlin. “Genetic and Environmental Influences on Criminal Behavior” an individual’s environment, their desire to feel satisfaction and gratification, and their need to be punished for their actions and genetics all contributed to their criminal actions.

  • If a person grows up in an environment where they are neglected or abused, they grow up thinking that that is normal and that is how they should act. This mindset leads to them committing crimes.

  • Humans feel an enormous amount of guilt when they have an underdeveloped superego and because of this they feel the innate desire to commit crimes.

  • Humans desire food, sex, and survival which is embedded in their subconscious and whenever their bodies requires it, it sends neurons to the brain which then triggers the need to get it by any and all means necessary. This leads to them stealing to acquire food, rape for sexual pleasure and killing for self -defense.

  • It is proven that an individual is most likely to become a criminal if their parents have a history of mental illness.
